Jamie Foxx Supports Cameron Diaz's Comeback in 'Back in Action'
Cameron Diaz made her return to acting with the Netflix film "Back in Action," alongside Jamie Foxx. This marks Diaz’s first role since 2014's "Annie." Director Seth Gordon highlighted Foxx's unwavering support for Diaz during filming, PEOPLE reported.
Foxx was a major cheerleader for Diaz throughout the production. "Anyone who was on set will tell you he was the biggest cheerleader and hype man for her," Gordon said. His encouragement extended to the entire cast, especially for Diaz. Later, Diaz also provided support for Foxx following his medical emergency in April 2023, which led to filming interruptions.
Their long-standing friendship played a significant role. Gordon mentioned that navigating such circumstances was unusual but beneficial due to their positive relationship. Diaz and Foxx’s supportive dynamic contributed to a healthy filming environment.
In "Back in Action," Foxx and Diaz portray former CIA agents Matt and Emily. The plot follows them as they abandon their espionage lives to start a family, only to be pulled back into their old world when their covers are threatened. The film also features Glenn Close, Kyle Chandler, Andrew Scott, McKenna Roberts, Rylan Jackson, and Jamie Demetriou in key roles.
Diaz previously starred with Foxx in "Annie," marking their last film together. Their first collaboration occurred in "Any Given Sunday" in 1999, solidifying their longstanding professional relationship.
Cameron Diaz’s return was highly anticipated, especially as fans look forward to her role in "Shrek 5" alongside Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy in 2026. After announcing her comeback in June 2022, Diyas reportedly felt a mix of nerves and excitement. A source stated that her husband Benji Madden played a key role in encouraging her to act again.
Foxx claimed that fun was the key to bringing Diaz back. He emphasized telling her to "just have some fun," which ultimately convinced her to join the project.
In a recent interview, Diaz stated that deciding on future roles is challenging. She asserted her right to choose whether to act again, leaving her future open-ended. Currently, *Back in Action* is available for streaming on Netflix.
