Jan Schwieterman, Best Known for Starring in Good Burger, Dies at 52 After Cancer Diagnosis

Jan Patrick "J.P." Schwieterman, renowned for his role in Nickelodeon's "Good Burger," has passed away at 52. His obituary states that he died on February 28 at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri, PEOPLE reported.
His brother, Chad Schwieterman, shared on Facebook that Jan was diagnosed with an aggressive stage 4 cancer before his death. "It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my brother, Jan (JP) Schwieterman," Chad wrote on March 1. He added, "He recently found out he had an aggressive form of stage 4 cancer and passed yesterday evening. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time." He concluded with a heartfelt, "Rest in peace, brother. We love you and miss you."

Jan Schwieterman was born on September 30, 1972, in Bluffton, Indiana, about 25 miles from Fort Wayne. In his youth, he participated in the Boy Scouts of America and proudly became an Eagle Scout. After graduating from high school, he moved to California to chase his acting dreams.
He earned his first role in 1994 on the TV series "McKenna." Following that, Jan guest-starred in popular shows such as "ER," "Forever," "NightMan," "Undressed," and "Felicity." In 1997, he landed the role of Kurt Bozwell in *Good Burger*, sharing the screen with comedians Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell.
Later, he appeared in "Warlock III: The End of Innocence" and "American Intellectuals" in 1999. In the 2000s, he starred in "Fallen Arches" before taking a seven-year break from acting. His final role was as Michael Braga in the 2007 film "Along the Way."

Beyond acting, Jan explored other artistic pursuits like photography and painting. He also trained in martial arts and spent his free time playing Dungeons and Dragons. He had a passion for travel, with Thailand being his most recent destination.
Jan's funeral took place on March 4. His family requested that donations be directed to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He leaves behind his parents, LeeRoy Schwieterman and Clara Reed, as well as two sisters, Megan and Vanessa, his brother Chad, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
