Jane Seymour's Key Advice to Female Actors: 'Don't Give Up' and ‘Be Authentic’
Jane Seymour, at 73, has had a remarkable career in entertainment that began at age 13. Her experiences over six decades have equipped her with valuable insights. At The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Gala on Wednesday, December 4, she shared her key advice.
"Don’t take it for granted. It isn’t easy," she advises. Seymour emphasizes the importance of how one conducts oneself in the industry. "The balance of how you come across and how you conduct yourself is huge," she stated exclusively at The Beverly Hills Hotel. She added, "But also I’ve never given up. I now have my own series again in my 70s." To other women, she encourages, "Don’t give up and be authentic. Don’t pretend to be 20 when you’re 70. Be 70."
The actress, known for her role in *Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman*, is proud to witness the strides women have made in entertainment. "It’s a great honor," she expressed. After six decades, Seymour sees the positive changes. "Women are really having their moment now and telling their stories, which is very empowering."
Seymour also praised Selena Gomez’s recent accomplishments. "I just saw Selena’s movie last night, *Emilia Pérez*," she said. "I was blown away. She and her co-stars were incredible." Seymour acknowledged Gomez's recognition at the gala. "She’s being honored today for very good reason," she noted.
During the event, Gomez received the Equity in Entertainment Award. In her acceptance speech, she reminded the audience, "This award isn't just for me, it’s for so many other people who have been overlooked and disrespected."
As for her own career, Seymour shows no signs of slowing down. In January, she will film a movie in England. She remains optimistic about a fifth season of her crime procedural, "Harry Wild." Furthermore, her personal life is thriving. Her son, Sean, 39, plans to marry in 2025.
"I’m enjoying my life," she said joyfully. "I’ve got grandchildren, kids, an amazing extended family, and there’s a lot of joy in my life right now."
