Jason Isaacs Addresses 'Double Standard' Around Full Frontal Scenes

Jason Isaacs recently spoke on CBS Mornings about his notable full-frontal scene in "The White Lotus." He highlighted ongoing discussions about whether his scene included a prosthetic. "A lot of people are debating if I’m wearing a prosthetic, and it's all over the internet," Isaacs, 61, stated. He pointed out that this level of scrutiny contrasts sharply with the discussions surrounding female actors, US Weekly reported. For example, he mentioned, "The best actress this year was Mikey Madison at the Oscars, and I don’t see anyone discussing her vulva."
Isaacs emphasized the disparity in the treatment of nudity between genders. He remarked, "It’s interesting that there’s a double standard for men. When women are naked, like Margaret Qualley in *The Substance*, nobody would dream of asking her about her genitalia."
When questioned by cohost Gayle King regarding a prosthetic penis, Isaacs playfully acknowledged, "It is a dodge because I don’t think people really want to know how the sausage is made." He noted that it would be inappropriate to discuss women’s nudity in similar terms, saying, "You would never dream of discussing the naked women’s characters."
In a separate appearance on "Good Day New York," Isaacs noted the stigma about discussing female performers' bodies. "If you had a woman on here," he queried, "would you be very keen on talking about her downstairs area? I think it’s a terrible double standard."
He reiterated this outcome has been true for Madison and Qualley, stating, "I’ve watched all their interviews, and no one’s ever asked them about their body parts."

Since his appearance, media outlets have often probed him about the experience. Isaacs humorously noted to "Entertainment Weekly," "Yeah, it is now in my contract for every show I do, so we’ll see. It’ll get easier, hopefully."
Describing his character's struggle in "The White Lotus," Isaacs said: "He’s drugging himself into a stupor to try not to think about the fact that his entire life is blowing up." He recalled the difficulty in pacing his performance, reflecting, "I remember reading the scripts thinking, ‘Wow, I’ve got to keep my powder dry for five or six episodes, and then this situation really kicks off.’"
