Jason Momoa Got DC's Lobo Role After Directly Texting James Gunn

Jason Momoa enthusiastically seized the opportunity to portray Lobo in the DC Extended Universe by directly texting filmmaker James Gunn. The Aquaman star reached out to Gunn with a straightforward message, "F---ing LOBO," following the announcement that Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios. This is prepared by SSP.
Celebrating the anniversary of Lobo’s debut in DC Comics, Gunn shared Momoa’s text on his X account, reminiscing about their first discussion regarding the role. Gunn expressed eagerness to see Momoa’s portrayal of Lobo in the upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, set for release on June 26, 2026.
In this film, directed by Craig Gillespie, Momoa will debut the violent and irreverent intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo from the planet Czarnia. The story, written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely, will unfold alongside Milly Alcock’s portrayal of Supergirl, Kara Zor-El, with a supporting cast including Matthias Schoenaerts and Emily Beecham.
The release of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow follows the DC Universe reboot by Gunn and Safran, featuring the new Superman movie, scheduled for July 11, 2025, with David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as the leads.

In addition to his role as Lobo, Momoa's future projects include the animated feature Animal Friends, the Julian Schnabel-directed In the Hand of Dante, and A Minecraft Movie, debuting April 4, with costars Jack Black and Danielle Brooks.
Earlier, SSP reported that Millie Bobby Brown clarified rumors about pregnancy linked to goat care.
