Jenny McCarthy Reveals Trying Veganism Almost Killed Her

Jenny McCarthy revealed a troubling experience with veganism, stating it nearly led to severe health issues due to her food allergies hindering nutrient intake. Speaking on the Heal Squad podcast with Maria Menounos, McCarthy, 52, shared her shock at becoming very ill whilst trying veganism. This is prepared by SSP.
Her undiagnosed food allergies, including gluten and dairy intolerances related to Celiac disease, made the plant-based lifestyle untenable. The protein in wheat and other grains compounded her struggles, and her additional allergies to soy exacerbated her fatigue and discomfort. "I can't have carbs and everything is a carb," she observed, highlighting the dietary challenge caused by her allergies. Her history also includes Candida, Hashimoto’s disease, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, and Leaky Gut syndrome, complicating dietary choices even further.
Upon medical advice, McCarthy switched to a carnivore diet, viewing it initially as a heavy, last-resort measure. "The suggestion didn’t sit well at first," McCarthy admitted, confessing she missed lighter foods like salmon, yet accepted the transition for her well-being.
The change, however, transformed her energy and overall health, including overcoming lifelong constipation struggles. The carnivore diet, she claims, has worked wonders in boosting her energy levels, making it easier to manage her Celiac and other health issues. Still, aware of its risks—largely from its exclusion of essential nutrients found in plant-based foods—McCarthy stresses this approach might not suit everyone. "Some people improve with vegan diets, some don't," she acknowledged, advising others to consult healthcare providers before embracing such drastic dietary changes, given the possible cardiovascular and nutritional pitfalls.
