John Mayer Expresses Empathy Amid LA Wildfires
John Mayer shared heartfelt thoughts about the loss of sentimental items due to the recent wildfires in Los Angeles.
On Thursday, January 9, the musician posted an image of a folder on Instagram. He reflected on the deep pain that comes from losing precious keepsakes as many face that reality amidst these catastrophic events. Mayer specifically expressed his support for those experiencing such profound loss.
In Mayer's words: "I don’t practice prayer, but tonight I will say one for everyone who no longer has these items. It’s not about the art and collectibles. It’s the photos, letters, class rings, eyeglasses, and things we keep to remind us that those we loved were here." He continued, wishing that those affected find hope and support from friends and family. "Stay safe, look out for each other, and trust that humanity, despite its difficulties, persists. This is truly devastating."
In a follow-up comment, Mayer reassured followers that he had not lost his home: "For clarity: I’m safe, extraordinarily lucky to still have my place in LA, but keeping my documents close by. ❤️"
His post resonated widely, garnering supportive responses. Kelly Rizzo, the widow of Bob Saget, shared her experience packing precious possessions while preparing to evacuate. Rizzo commented, "This is so beautiful, John. I can only imagine how precious everything in that folder is to you. When you mentioned eyeglasses, it broke me because those are some of the first things I packed."
The wildfires have caused significant damage, with estimates reporting approximately 9,000 homes affected. Areas such as Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Santa Monica, and Hollywood Hills have suffered greatly. Prominent figures, including Billy Crystal and Paris Hilton, also faced losses amid these devastating fires.
