John Mulaney Discusses Parenting Dynamics with Olivia Munn on SNL
John Mulaney recently hosted Saturday Night Live for the sixth time, showcasing parenthood humor in his monologue. He addressed his family dynamics, particularly now with a newborn. His wife, Olivia Munn, gave birth to a baby girl, Méi June, on September 14. She is a younger sister to their 2-year-old, Malcolm.
Mulaney jokingly described his parenting arrangement. He noted, "My wife takes care of the 5-week-old and I take the 2-year-old out. That’s not fair." He humorously compared transporting a child to an unequal labor distribution, stating, "That’s like saying, ‘I’ll transport this convict across state lines, you hold a potato.’"
Towards the end of his SNL appearance, he gave a sweet shout-out to his children. He waved and said, "Goodnight Malcom, goodnight Méi."
Munn and Mulaney welcomed Méi via surrogate after Munn faced breast cancer challenges. Munn shared heartfelt emotions about not carrying her daughter. She remarked on Instagram how she connected with their surrogate, stating, "I knew I had found a real-life angel." She expressed gratitude for the surrogate keeping Méi safe for nine months, emphasizing her growing affection for her daughter.
Münn explained, "Méi means plum in Chinese." She revealed powerful feelings toward her little girl and described a profound emotional experience upon her arrival.
In March 2024, Munn disclosed her breast cancer diagnosis from the previous year. She underwent five surgeries, including a double mastectomy and full hysterectomy. "Doing a full hysterectomy was a big decision, but the best decision for me," she said to Vogue. She emphasized her desire to be fully present for her family.
John Mulaney and Olivia Munn married in July 2022, after beginning their relationship in 2021. Their son, Malcolm, was born in November of that year.
