Johnny Depp Had a Hard Time Processing Fame as Young Actor

Johnny Depp recently recalled the intense media attention he received as a young actor and how it influenced his early career, in a new documentary about frequent collaborator Tim Burton. In the second episode of filmmaker Tara Wood’s four-part series on Burton, Depp shared his discomfort with his celebrity status and the heartthrob image portrayed in the media. Archive footage shows Burton emphasizing that Depp was "very much not" the sex symbol he was often portrayed as, which Depp reflected on by stating, "I was completely freaked out by [fame]," describing how paparazzi tunneled into his life, making him feel overly exposed. This is prepared by SSP.
Depp also revisited his initial meeting with Burton to discuss the film Edward Scissorhands, revealing an instant connection where both discovered mutual interests. Despite forming this bond, Depp admitted he was uncertain about securing the film's lead role even after lengthy talks with the director. He later learned that Burton had intentionally isolated him from rehearsals to better simulate the loneliness central to his character, a revelation that eased his initial paranoia about being excluded or untrustworthy to play the role.
The success of Edward Scissorhands marked the beginning of a long professional relationship between Depp and Burton, leading to collaborations on successful films such as Ed Wood, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
The docuseries features interviews with prominent actors such as Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, Helena Bonham Carter, and others delving into their experiences working with iconic director Burton.
Earlier, SSP reported that Jessica Simpson elevated airport fashion with cheetah print and high boots.
