Josh Allen's Inspiring Response to Engagement Question
Last week, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen proposed to actress Hailee Steinfeld. He later described his return to the field following their engagement.
The quarterback offered a heartfelt response when a reporter inquired about the victory against the San Francisco 49ers on December 1. During the post-game press conference with wide receiver Amari Cooper, he said, "Felt good. Felt free," reflecting on how it felt to be a newly engaged fiancé.
This recent game was significant for Josh. It was his first opportunity to play on the field since becoming engaged. In the matchup against the 49ers, he made NFL history, becoming the first quarterback to pass, rush, and catch a touchdown in a single game, as confirmed by Sunday Night Football on NBC.
Just a week prior, the 28-year-old proposed to Hailee by a beautiful flower-adorned arch, overlooking the ocean waves. This moment followed his record-breaking performance in the game, where he set a new Bills franchise record for the most touchdowns.
Despite their engagement making headlines, Josh and Hailee, 27, have chosen to keep their relationship mostly private. After sharing their exciting news, Josh reflected on his recent bye week without revealing too much about their relationship. "It was fantastic," he said in a press conference on November 27. "I got some sun, hung out with family. It was fantastic."
Josh's choice to maintain privacy around their romance comes after expressing surprise at the public’s interest. On the "Pardon My Take" podcast last August, he mentioned the extremes paparazzi went to for photographs. "The fact anybody cares about that still blows my mind," he stated. He recounted feeling an unsettling lack of privacy when he saw paparazzi on a boat.
However, this doesn’t stop the couple from sharing moments of their lives. With Christmas nearing, Hailee revealed a charming story about their gift exchange from last year. She shared this anecdote in her October newsletter, Beau Society.
"I got this knife for Josh last year for Christmas because cooking is something we love to do together," she noted, as reported by Sports Illustrated. "For Christmas, he got me…the same one in a different colorway!"
She added a fun twist about their gift exchange: "After we exchanged our knives lol," she mentioned, "he told me there's an old wives' tale that if you gift your significant other a knife, you have to pay for it. Otherwise, it signifies the severing of a relationship. So we exchanged quarters so we didn’t have that bad omen."
