Kacey Musgraves Reflects on Loss of Dog Pearl: "So Painful"
Kacey Musgraves is currently "pre-grieving" the impending loss of her dog, Pearl. The singer, who is 36 years old, returned to Texas for Christmas. During her visit, she revealed through Instagram Stories that her cherished pet is nearing the end of her life.
"Been sad over here pre-grieving the loss of my Pearl Girl the last couple of days," Musgraves shared in a heartfelt tribute. This message accompanied a photo of Pearl comfortably resting on dog bed by the fireplace. The singer expressed that Pearl "is still hanging on, but is very near the end."
Musgraves disclosed that she has had Pearl for 15 years. Their relationship began after a significant birthday milestone. "She came to me the day after my 21st bday and has seen me through many chapters," she wrote.
Pearl once lost a limb, earning the nickname "tripod." After this incident, Musgraves’ parents took Pearl in, as she was no longer suited to life on the road. Nonetheless, the love between them remained strong.
"They have loved her completely as their own," Musgraves noted about her parents’ affection for Pearl. She added, "My dad especially took a liking to her. She’s his best friend."
Describing the connection with a family pet, Musgraves reflected on its bittersweet nature. "The bond we form with these creatures is a blessing..but a ticking time bomb," she emphasized. "An inevitable continuous deposit into a bank of future sadness. So painful but so worth it."
Musgraves gave Pearl permission to cross "that rainbow bridge" whenever she feels ready. "Not sure I will ever see her again," she lovingly mused.
In a follow-up Instagram Story, Musgraves shared a video of Pearl lying down as she gently petted her. She referred to Pearl as "tough as nails."
"She’s survived two catastrophic accidents, is missing an arm, and has a rod in her hip," Musgraves noted. "Maybe she’ll somehow actually outlive us all."
