Kate Beckinsale Honors Late Stepfather in Heartfelt Tribute
Kate Beckinsale marked the one-year anniversary of her stepfather's death with an emotional Instagram post, sharing how his passing affects her daily life.
In the tribute, Beckinsale posted a touching photo of her stepfather, Roy Battersby, where he wears a shirt reading, "World’s best farter. I mean father." He smiles widely while holding a bouquet of flowers. Beckinsale recalled the trauma of finding her father's dead body at just five years old. "Seeing my beloved stepfather die a year ago today will haunt me forever," she wrote. She expressed regret for being present during both losses and feeling powerless to prevent either.
Reflecting on her grief, Beckinsale mourned the various losses that accompanied Battersby’s passing in January 2024 due to a brief illness. "Losing my beloved Roy caused loss of family, friends, my health, and much money due to the horrible American healthcare system," she wrote. She conveyed feelings of failure, admitting, "I dreadfully failed." She added she would endure the pain again if it meant being with him.
Beckinsale shared her attempts to console herself, believing that Battersby was ready for death and at peace. However, she often feels these reassurances are a lie she tells herself. "Perhaps I lack the enlightenment to sell that to myself over my profound loss, guilt, and failure," she admitted. The anniversary brought forth a painful wave of emotions. Beckinsale said, "It is a tough day to talk about our precious tragedy."
Despite the pain, Beckinsale committed to honoring his memory. She recalled how Battersby taught her bravery and the importance of doing what is right, regardless of others' opinions. He fought for justice for many causes, from trade unions to Palestinians, even living in refugee camps during his efforts.
She expressed gratitude for having been raised by someone who knew his values. "I am incredibly lucky to have had a father who lived out his beliefs and loved me deeply. I miss you so much."
