Kate Middleton Invites Families from Taylor Swift-Themed Dance Class Attack to Her Carol Service
The Princess of Wales is hosting her annual Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey on Friday, Dec. 6. Kate Middleton has reached out to families affected by the devastating knife attack during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class.
Families and survivors from Southport, where a tragic mass stabbing took place, have been invited to the service. On July 29, three children lost their lives in the attack, and ten others sustained injuries, including eight children. Kensington Palace confirmed the invitation for families to attend the concert at Westminster Abbey, with The Sun initially reporting the news.
Both Kate and Prince William, aged 42, have previously met with the families of the three young victims, alongside others impacted by the tragedy. This included their dance teacher, who witnessed the events firsthand, during a surprise visit to Southport in October. Additionally, they met with first responders who rushed to the scene that fateful day in July.
This visit marked Princess Kate's gradual return to royal duties after announcing the end of her chemotherapy treatment on Sept. 9. The annual carol service has become a significant event on the royal calendar, and this year marks the fourth time she has hosted it. Kensington Palace shared the service's theme as "Together at Christmas," highlighting the importance of supporting those in need and spreading love.
The theme draws inspiration from the Christmas story, encouraging empathy towards others' experiences. The service typically includes the couple's three children - Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 — along with other royal family members. It will be filmed and broadcast by ITV1 and ITVx on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.
For this year's service, approximately 1,600 guests from across the UK, who have made meaningful contributions to their communities, will attend. Kate's office noted, "This year’s service provides a moment to reflect on the importance of love and empathy, especially in difficult times. It will highlight individuals showing kindness and support in their communities."
In the wake of the Southport stabbings, the Prince and Princess of Wales expressed their condolences. They shared a message that resonated with their perspective as parents, saying, "As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends, and loved ones of those killed and injured are going through. We send our love, thoughts, and prayers to all those involved in this horrid and heinous attack."
