Katie Gaudreau Celebrates the Arrival of Baby Tripp Amid Heartfelt Remembrance
Katie, sister of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau, is celebrating the birth of her new nephew. Matthew’s wife, Madeline, announced the arrival of their first child, Tripp, on Instagram Sunday, December 29. This announcement comes four months after Matthew’s passing.
Katie reshared Madeline’s announcement on her Instagram Stories, expressing her overwhelming emotions with the phrase, "Truly speechless." She also shared a post from the North American Hockey League’s Philadelphia Rebels, honoring baby Tripp's birth. Matthew, only 29 years old, had served as the team's assistant coach.
Madeline wrote on Instagram, "Tripp Matthew 🤍🦋," celebrating the newborn’s arrival. She shared a touching image, showcasing her holding Tripp's tiny hand beside a sign that reads, "He’s here." Madeline also tagged Matthew in this heartfelt message.
On August 29, a suspected drunk driver fatally struck both brothers while they were biking near their hometown in New Jersey. This tragic event occurred just one day before Katie’s planned wedding. Johnny and Matthew were slated to be groomsmen at the ceremony.
Katie’s wedding website indicates her and fiancé Devin Joyce will now marry on July 11, 2025, in Philadelphia. Following her brothers’ tragic deaths, Katie reflected on the emotional turmoil she faced just before her wedding.
In an Instagram post, she described the moment: "That day," she wrote on September 5. "Right in the middle of getting ready for the best day of my life, the unthinkable happens." She recalled final preparations and how carefree worries shifted after receiving heartbreaking news.
Katie urged others to cherish their loved ones: "Remember to tell your people you love them. I would do anything to tell my big brothers I love them one more time."
In September, Katie shared a meaningful tribute on her wedding band. "Forever with me now. J & M," she posted on September 7, revealing an engravement honoring Johnny and Matthew’s memory.
Both brothers are also survived by sister Kristen Venello, along with their parents, Guy and Jane. Johnny’s wife, Meredith, and their two children, Noa, aged 2, and Johnny, 10 months, remember them fondly. Meredith announced she is expecting the couple’s third child, adding to their family legacy.
