Kelly Clarkson Transforming into Beetlejuice for Halloween Episode
PEOPLE offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Kelly Clarkson’s Halloween transformation into beetlejuice. The renowned singer and talk show host takes on this peculiar character in the October 31 episode of "The Kelly Clarkson Show."
Clarkson impressively replicates Beetlejuice’s iconic style, featuring a black-and-white pinstripe suit, green hair, dark eye makeup, and pale skin. The transformation even includes the character's signature rotten teeth. Clarkson's dramatic makeover drew an amusing response from the show's house band, Y'all, who humorously stated, "You look gross," upon seeing her in full costume.
Glam Team Behind the Transformation
This incredible transformation wasn't a solo project for Clarkson. A talented glam team was crucial. Stylist Micaela Erlanger and dresser Arleisha Randle managed the intricate Beetlejuice wardrobe. Emmy-nominated makeup artist Gloria Elias-Foeillet created the character's spooky appearance, while Emmy-winning designer Louie Zakarian, known for his role on Saturday Night Live, worked on the special effects makeup. Additionally, hairstylist Corey Morris and SNL wigmaker Brittany Hartman designed Beetlejuice's unique hairstyle.
Clarkson embraces not only the visual elements but also embodies the character's essence. She imitates the famous speech made popular by actor Michael Keaton, enhancing her portrayal.
The Beetlejuice Influence on The Kelly Clarkson Show
Fans were first introduced to Beetlejuice in Tim Burton's "1988 film," featuring stars like Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Alec Baldwin, and Geena Davis. Michael Keaton’s iconic role has been reprised in this year's much-anticipated sequel, "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice."
The current Halloween episode features visuals and themes from both films, with Clarkson's costume at the forefront. The set resembles the iconic model city, bringing key elements from the franchise to life. As tradition holds, the spook-tacular Halloween episode will open with one of Clarkson's renowned Kellyoke performances. This time, Clarkson and her band will perform a haunted version of "Banana Boat (Day-O)," a classic track highlighted in one of Beetlejuice’s memorable scenes.
Additional Halloween Festivities
Several special guests join Clarkson, including Reba McEntire and her boyfriend, actor Rex Linn, both dressed for the occasion. Instances of fright particularly amuse McEntire. Food artist Nikk Alcaraz, creator of "Practical Peculiarities," will showcase eerie dishes from his new cookbook, "Peculiar Baking: A Practical Guide to Strange Confections," providing a more interactive element.
Moreover, a competitive segment features past show guests Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone against Clarkson in an axe-throwing challenge, linked to their podcast, "Hildy the Barback and the Lake of Fire."
The episode also includes a performance by the Boulet Brothers, who will present "All Hallows’ Eve" from their new EP "Halloween House Party." Additionally, a touching segment highlights a Wisconsin NICU nurse crocheting Halloween costumes for newborns, adding a heartfelt touch to the festivities.
This sixth Halloween episode continues Clarkson’s creative tradition on her show, following previous themes. Past costumes included a bloodsucking vampire and a whimsical Stevie Nicks interpretation. Earlier seasons featured lighter-hearted themes like Ghostbuster, Marilyn Monroe, and Winifred Sanderson from "Hocus Pocus."
