The intimate event included Mr. Jones' seven children, his brother, two sisters, and other immediate family members. While the family did not disclose the specific location of the funeral in Los Angeles, they expressed gratitude for the wave of condolences from friends and fans globally. The family noted, "Details for a memorial celebration of Mr. Jones’ life will be announced at a later date."
Jones passed away on Sunday, November 3, at his residence in Bel Air, Los Angeles, as reported by his publicist, Arnold Robinson.
Jones' legacy continues through his surviving children: Jolie, 71, whom he had with his first wife Jeri Caldwell; Martina, 58, and Quincy III, from his second marriage to actress Ulla Andersson; Rachel, 61, with ex-girlfriend Carol Reynolds; Kidada, 50; and actress Rashida, 48, from his third wife Peggy Lipton. He also leaves behind daughter Kenya, 31, from ex-girlfriend Nastassja Kinski.
Rashida Jones, known for her role in "Parks and Recreation," honored her father with an emotional Instagram post on Thursday, November 7. In her tribute, she reflected on her father's nocturnal lifestyle. Rashida wrote about how she would often wake in the night searching for him. "Undoubtedly, he would be somewhere in the house, composing," she shared alongside a photo of her as a baby in his arms.
She described her father with heartfelt admiration, stating, "He was a giant. An icon. A culture shifter. A genius." Rashida highlighted that his music and work represented his love for others. "He made everyone feel loved and seen. That’s his legacy," she expressed, emphasizing the affection she experienced.
Rashida concluded her tribute with a personal message to her father. "I’ll miss his hugs, kisses, and unconditional devotion," she wrote. "Daddy, it is an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever."
