Kim Kardashian Showcases a $5 Million Artwork
Inside Kim Kardashian's lavish California home hangs a Jean-Michel Basquiat painting worth an impressive $5 million. This striking artwork certainly adds elegance to her decor.
Kardashian’s passion for fine art is evident. Photographs shared by Kris Jenner from a recent Wicked viewing party revealed the "Both Poles" piece displayed in a hallway adorned with green and pink decorations.
Originally auctioned by Christie's in 2017, the painting sold for around $4.9 million. According to Widewalls, the artwork fetched over $5.1 million in its last sale in 2020.
Created in 1982, the ontainst para iffixture of acrylic paint, oilstick, and paper collage on canvas, enhanced with wood supports. As described by the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, it explores themes such as "North and South, heaven and earth," along with symbols representing mountains, the moon, and a power pylon.
Basquiat often depicted contrasting realities, as noted on his estate's Instagram. His work highlights themes like wealth versus poverty and integration compared to segregation, showcasing a fusion of these concepts in every composition.
Art appreciation runs in the Kardashian family. Kylie's collection features Basquiat's work, as revealed in her 2019 Architectural Digest house tour. Along with Basquiat, Kylie also owns pieces by Andy Warhol and Damien Hirst, solidifying her taste in fine art.
Kendall Jenner adds to this trend with a striking James Turrell wall sculpture worth $75,000. She expresses her admiration for Turrell, stating her desire for the piece to be central in her home.
In 2023, Kourtney Kardashian received a special gift from her husband, Travis Barker, for her 44th birthday: Yoshitomo Nara's "Love! Somethin'". Sotheby's auctioned this signed sketch earlier that year for around $161,819, reinforcing the family’s love for art.
