Laura Dern Discusses Filming Intimacy with Liam Hemsworth in Lonely Planet

Laura Dern expressed gratitude for working alongside Liam Hemsworth, identifying him as "literally the safest person" for filming intimate scenes in Lonely Planet.

Strong Working Relationship

Laura considers Liam a lifelong friend, stating, "He is the safest person I could ever discuss everything in my life with." They openly communicated about their approach to filming sex scenes in the Netflix movie. "By the time we were doing those scenes, there was nothing we couldn't talk about together," she shared in an interview with People, published on October 11. "We had a lot of discussion and support."

She emphasized her good fortune in working with Liam, complimenting the presence of an intimacy coordinator. This professional helped them create a secure environment, allowing them to set boundaries. Laura pointed out, "We both, as young actors, have had many different experiences on films."

Immersive Experience

Liam echoed Laura's sentiments, describing his experience as "completely immersed" in the film. Their project revolves around a May-December romance between an author and a finance manager who travel internationally. "There were times when we shot in the Marrakesh markets where we couldn't even see the camera," Liam recalled. He explained that filming felt natural, like "we were just hanging out."

This relaxed atmosphere contributed to Liam feeling like they were being filmed as simply "Laura and Liam," capturing genuine moments.

Future Prospects

The enjoyable experience during production has sparked interest in a sequel. "I’m feeling a sequel for sure," Laura stated, while Liam jokingly suggested, "Our characters can go to Tahiti and become scuba-diving instructors."

Beyond Lonely Planet, Laura is eager to reprise her role as Renata Klein in Big Little Lies. She emphasized her commitment, saying she would return if "it's meant to be." She has strong connections with co-stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, and Zoë Kravitz, whom she considers "my dearest friends."
