Liam Payne Came ‘Close to Death’ Several Times Amid Addiction Battle, Claims Friend
In Liam Payne's ongoing death investigation, friend Roger Nores provided insights into the singer's struggles with addiction. He expressed his care for Payne in a recent court filing, claiming, "I was a friend who loved him very much, who helped him selflessly in everything I could, and even then it was not enough." Nores disputed accusations that he abandoned Payne before his untimely death, US Weekly reported.
Liam Payne, who tragically fell from a third-story hotel balcony in Argentina at age 31, faced significant addiction challenges. An autopsy revealed multiple injuries and the presence of various drugs in his system during the incident. Nores described his awareness of Payne’s drug struggles, noting that although Payne sought rehab to combat his addictions, those efforts ultimately failed.
"Nores stated, ‘His addictions led him to willingly attend rehab centers, but unfortunately, his addiction worsened with substance use such as heroin.’" He recounted an incident from September 2023 when Payne experienced severe intoxication, resulting in hospitalization in Milan. There were additional hospitalizations in London later in the year, where medical professionals revived him in critical condition.
Continuing his account, Nores explained that Payne relapsed and was again hospitalized. He recalled the precarious situation surrounding Payne's repeated crises: "The professionals had to resort to resuscitation maneuvers to save his life." Following a relapse in August, Nores emphasized the urgency of Payne's struggles.
Amid the happenings, Nores maintained that he never abandoned his friend during dark times. "I visited Liam’s hotel three times that day and left 40 minutes before this incident occurred," he recounted in earlier statements to the media. He expressed disbelief that a tragedy could unfold while so many were present at the hotel.
Nores conveyed his grief, stating, "I was not Liam’s manager; he was just my very dear friend. I’m heartbroken over this tragedy." After his passing in November, Payne was laid to rest in his native England. He is survived by his parents, sisters, and his seven-year-old son, whom he shared with ex-partner Cheryl Cole.
