Malia Obama Makes Rare Appearance at "Sorry, Baby" Movie Screening

Malia Obama, the daughter of former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, recently attended the premiere of the film Sorry, Baby. This event marked a rare outing for the emerging filmmaker.
The 26-year-old, who is the older sister of Sasha Obama, was photographed at the Los Angeles screening on March 28. Malia was seen alongside Eva Victor, who directs, writes, and stars in the film. She opted for a stylish black blazer over a matching cardigan and short skirt, complemented by black tights for the occasion.
While Malia is not credited with any work on Sorry, Baby, which will be released on June 27, her appearance generated notable interest. The last time Malia was seen at a high-profile event was back in September.

Malia made headlines when she walked the red carpet at the 2024 Deauville American Film Festival in France. At that event, she screened her short film The Heart, a project honored with the Young Spirit Award. This film, her directorial debut, tells the story of a man mourning his mother while navigating her unusual request stated in her will.
For her Deauville appearance, Malia wore an off-the-shoulder corset top with black, gray, white, and red plaid patterns, coupled with a blue and white asymmetrical skirt by the late designer Vivienne Westwood. She completed her outfit with black knee-high boots.
In a rare interview with Paris Match, she expressed her admiration for Vivienne Westwood, stating, "It's cool. I don't know as much about fashion, but I'm happy to be wearing it."
This recent event comes months after Malia's debut at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival held in Park City, Utah, where she showcased The Heart. During the festival, a Meet the Artist video provided by the Sundance Institute referred to her as Malia Ann, revealing her preference for using her middle name as a filmmaker.
In an episode of The Pivot Podcast from October 2024, former President Obama commented on her choice to use a stage name.
He mentioned that he asked Malia if she realized people would recognize her. Malia responded, "I want them to watch it that first time and not in any way have that association." Her decision reflects her desire to establish herself independently in the film industry.
