Mama June Shannon Seeks Fresh Start After Daughter's Passing
Mama June Shannon is ready for a new beginning. The 45-year-old reality star expressed her desire to move from her current home, which has become an emotional burden following the death of her daughter, Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell.
In an interview with PEOPLE, she said, "I don't want to be here anymore. It's just a mental and emotional struggle for everybody." As the one-year anniversary of Anna’s passing approaches, June reflects on the turmoil this home evokes for her family. Anna died from stage 4 adrenal carcinoma on December 9, 2023, at age 29.
June explained that the family struggles to find a new place. She noted, "Pumpkin and the other girls don't want to come here because they were all here when Anna passed." The weight of memories makes it difficult for them to visit the home.
A Desire for Change
Reflecting on her childhood, June recalled the pain she felt when her mother sold their family home after her stepfather's death 30 years ago. She stated, "I was always mad at my mom because she gave away the childhood home." Now, she understands her mother’s decisions, saying, "It's just a constant reminder of everything, like the last days."
June initially hoped to relocate back to the Hampton Locust Grove area in Georgia. She desires a metropolitan neighborhood that offers more amenities and lifestyle options for her family. Recently, she reached out on Facebook for help finding a three- or four-bedroom house.
Navigating Grief
June shared her emotional journey since Anna's death, acknowledging the varying stages of her grieving process. She noted, "Some days are good, and I can put on that face," explaining that other times she feels overwhelmed and withdrawn. She admitted to periods where self-care activities, like getting her hair and nails done, were neglected.
This grieving process remains challenging. The struggle she experiences is complex, with emotions that leave her feeling frustrated and questioning why. "I'm just f---ing pissed off and mad because I'm like, 'Why?' " she expressed, highlighting the profound impact of her loss.
