Mandy Moore Shares Heartbreak Over Damaged Home After Eaton Fire
Mandy Moore has shared the devastating impact of the recent Eaton Fire on her Altadena, California home, PEOPLE reported. On February 11, the actress revealed in an Instagram post that "the contents of our home are a near total loss." She noted that the fire’s proximity to her house led to significant damage. Thankfully, she mentioned earlier that the "main part" of the house remained intact.
Moore expressed that it is likely "pretty much everything will have to be disposed of," including possibly the walls. She indicated the family would not return for a long time while the area undergoes cleaning and rebuilding processes.
Mandy detailed the emotional day of the evacuation, which occurred on January 7. "That day ... is seared in my brain," she shared. The school's cancellation for her eldest son due to strong winds added to the chaos. Moore came to know about the evacuation from her brother-in-law, who advised her to leave quickly as they arranged their departure.
During this tense moment, she was nursing her daughter. With urgency, she and her husband Taylor Goldsmith gathered their three children wearing pajamas and hurried to find their pets. "I’ll never forget Taylor trying to figure out how to manually open our two little garage doors," she recounted.
As the family raced across town amidst fallen trees, the reality of their situation darkened. Moore constantly checked a watch duty app to track the fire's threat level. At around 4 a.m., the danger zone had moved directly to their area. While her children slept, she sank into anxiety, struggling with the circumstances.
The next day was marked by grim confirmation from neighbors: their house was gone. Moore described how she and Taylor silently processed this loss together. They went searching for clothing, as they had expected to return soon.
Though their house had tragically suffered, she expressed gratitude that the main structure remained. Still, the majority of their neighborhood had vanished. In a plea for support in her comments, she listed her struggles in handling the emotional turmoil. "My brain and heart are so deeply broken," she admitted.
Moore reflected on what "home" truly means. While they retained the structure, she questioned if it felt like home. Home includes having a supportive and safe space for her family of five. Yet, she insisted that physical space provides comfort.
Moore shared how they initially found their Altadena home in the summer of 2020. Although they hadn’t intended to move, they recognized it as a place to raise their family. Just weeks after purchasing, she discovered she was expecting her first child. They lovingly restored the house into a loving home over four years.
Moore concluded her message with empathy for others impacted by the fires, urging that many lives had changed in an instant. While thankful for a safe place following their loss, she conveyed heartfelt solidarity with those affected. Her hope remains that, in time, their beloved town can begin to regain a sense of normalcy and community spirit once again.
