Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa Embrace Life as Empty Nester

Mark Consuelos and his wife Kelly Ripa are embracing their newfound status as empty-nesters, perhaps a bit too enthusiastically.
"It’s great," Consuelos, 53, remarked during the February 27 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! with Ripa, 54. He noted their children’s rooms remain untouched: "Their [rooms] are pretty much precisely how they left them, but I’ve been going around and using their bathrooms."
The couple, married since 1996, has three children: Michael, 27, Lola, 23, and Joaquin, 22. Consuelos explained his reason for using their bathrooms.

"Well, because we paid for the house, and I’ve never sat there," he stated. "I wanted to sit there."
Ripa playfully supported her husband's toilet exploration. "I, for one, am thankful," she joked during the episode. "That’s why we get along!"
The couple co-hosts Live with Kelly and Mark in New York City. They raised their children in the city before each left home after graduating high school and college.
"I don’t want to sound morbid, but they’ll have to carry me out of here feet-first because I have gotten good and comfortable in this house," Ripa jokingly told Architectural Digest in December 2024 about their dream townhouse. "When I first saw the house, I was like, ‘It’s perfect, just hand me my toothbrush.’"
Consuelos, however, had a few reservations. "We needed a place for all the scooters, bikes, and sports equipment," he explained to the magazine.

After renovations, including a cigar room for Consuelos, their home was finally move-in ready. He expressed his comfort, saying, "I really feel at home here." The wall outside their primary bedroom features artwork that symbolizes their children. "Those are our kids’ eyes hanging up as artwork. They don’t live here anymore, so when we leave our bedroom, it feels like they’re still with us."
Ripa added she "could stare at [the] kids’ eyes forever" and shared how they adjust to life without their children constantly around.
"I feel like you and I live well together," she told Architectural Digest. "[Sharing a closet and bathroom has] also forced us to be diligent about what we buy, wearing what we have, and not being wasteful. It keeps you honest."
