Martha Stewart Doesn’t Anticipate Renewing Ties with Ina Garten: ‘She’s into Her Own Thing'
At the New York premiere of her Netflix documentary 'Martha' on Oct. 21, Martha Stewart candidly remarked to PEOPLE regarding her past friendship with Ina Garten that a reconciliation isn't in the cards for them—and she's okay with that. "She’s into her own thing. That’s okay," the 83-year-old lifestyle mogul shared.
Stewart and Garten, 76, had forged a friendship in the Hamptons during the 1990s. They grew close, with Garten even writing a column for Martha Stewart Living and embarking on her literary journey with Stewart’s help. However, Stewart revealed on 'Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen' that their relationship soured when Garten ceased communication after Stewart's 2004 incarceration. Contrary to Garten’s account in her memoir, where she attributes the drift to her relocation to Connecticut, Stewart claims it isn’t the case, restating her position to The New Yorker where Garten firmly denied these charges.
After being released from prison in 2005 following a sentence for charges like conspiracy and obstruction of justice related to stock-selling, Stewart resumed her successful career, branching out into various ventures. In her forthcoming Netflix documentary, these personal challenges and accomplishments, including her imprisonment, are unveiled.
At the documentary's premiere, Stewart expressed her desire for the audience to extract valuable life lessons, remarking, "I just hope that everyone gets a few life lessons from the film and understands what's been going on." The documentary Martha begins streaming on Netflix from Oct. 30.
