Mary Cosby Shared Update on Son Robert Jr. After Rehab
Mary Cosby, a star of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, reports that her son Robert Jr. is thriving after his time in a rehabilitation facility. He sought help for substance abuse issues, completing a month-long program.
"He did go to rehab. He stayed for a month and did the program successfully. He came out a new person," stated Mary during her December 4 appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live.
Mary also shared insights about Robert Jr.'s wife, Alexiana Cosby, who "also went to rehab. And you know what? She’s still in there."
During her conversation with WWHL host Andy Cohen, Mary expressed immense pride in her 21-year-old son. "He is doing so good. I am so proud of him," she remarked.
A Serious Moment in the Franchise
In a departure from the usual light-hearted moments of Real Housewives, Mary and Robert Jr. shared a profound discussion in the November 27 episode. Robert Jr. revealed his struggles with substance abuse and mental health, expressing that sometimes life feels "like chicken unseasoned."
"When I get high, it’s like adding seasoning to it," he explained as Mary listened while emotional.
Robert Jr. recounted his introduction to drugs, mentioning, "I started doing Xanax, Acid, and then Molly with Xanax. I really like Xanax, so I mix it with everything." He detailed the overpowering nature of his substance use, saying, "I was taking 10 30mg Oxys at once and I couldn’t even feel it."
Mary broke down in tears, assuring her son she would not judge him. "I can try and help you, but you have to help yourself. Do you accept that you’re having a problem?" she asked him.
A Heartfelt Confession
Robert Jr. admitted he had moments where he "wanted to die," asserting that Mary was the "only reason" he didn’t follow through with suicide. "I felt like a stain," he said while reflecting on his struggles.
This impactful moment resonated with fans, including actress Bridget Everett. During her time as a guest on WWHL, she praised Mary’s support. "Everything you said was the right thing to say to him. He could not have dreamt of better support," she affirmed.
Mary revealed that this candid exchange with Robert Jr. was unplanned. "We just came together and I said, ‘We’re gonna do this because we’re gonna help someone,’" she shared, with tears in her eyes as Cohen comforted her.
Ongoing Support and Healing
Days before the episode aired, Mary provided an update when speaking exclusively with Us Weekly. "He’s steady, which I think is good," she said. "It’s a heavy topic. I didn’t expect this all at once, but I’m taking it day by day."
