Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are strengthening their bond with Canada, adding another chapter to their story. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex currently visit Vancouver and Whistler for the 2025 Invictus Games, set from February 8 to February 16. Established by Prince Harry in 2014, this international adaptive sports competition supports wounded, injured, and sick service personnel and veterans. The 2025 Invictus Games mark a special return to a former host country, after honoring previous locations like London, Orlando, Toronto, Sydney, The Hague, and Düsseldorf.
Canada holds significant memories for Meghan and Harry. Following their meeting in 2016, Prince Harry frequently traveled to Toronto, where Meghan was living while filming "Suits." Their romance remained largely secret until they celebrated Halloween together at a party in Toronto, unrecognized amidst the festivities, alongside Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank. Prince Harry humorously reflected on this night in his memoir, "Spare."

The couple made their first official public appearance during the 2017 Invictus Games held in Toronto. Meghan supported Harry from the stands during the opening ceremony, and afterward, they were seen enjoying some wheelchair tennis together. They were also spotted at the event's closing ceremony, where Harry joined Meghan and her mother, Doria Ragland, in a private box. There, they watched major performers like Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams, and Kelly Clarkson. In a heartwarming moment, Prince Harry publicly kissed Meghan on the cheek.
In a 2022 interview with PEOPLE, Prince Harry reflected on the Invictus Games’ pivotal role in their relationship. He remarked, "There is nowhere you can feel more embraced and supported than with the Invictus family." He appreciated the Toronto Games as their first public outing together, emphasizing the positive community surrounding them during that special moment.
The Duke and Duchess spent their first holiday season as a family of three on Vancouver Island after welcoming their son, Archie, in 2019. In January 2020, they visited Canada House in London to thank Canadian officials like Janice Charette, the High Commissioner, for the hospitality shown to them during their visit. This trip coincided with their announcement of stepping back from royal duties and subsequent relocation to Los Angeles.

In the lead-up to the 2025 Invictus Games, Harry and Meghan made several visits to Canada. Notably, in November 2023, they surprised fans by attending a Vancouver Canucks hockey game to promote the event. During the game, Prince Harry participated in the ceremonial first puck drop, echoing a similar event from 21 years earlier when Queen Elizabeth participated.

The couple also returned to British Columbia in February 2024 to celebrate the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games Vancouver-Whistler. They observed the Winter Training Camp, introducing teams from around the world to new sports that will feature in the games. In addition to familiar competitions, the upcoming event will include alpine skiing, snowboarding, biathlon, Nordic skiing, skeleton, and wheelchair curling. Impressively, Prince Harry even tried sit-skiing, made a thrilling skeleton run, and curled with celebrity Michael Bublé.
