Mel Gibson and Danny Glover Surprise Fans with Lethal Weapon Reunion
On February 7, during the MegaCon event in Orlando, fans received an unexpected treat. Danny Glover joined Mel Gibson on stage, causing a stir among attendees. Glover’s appearance during Gibson's panel brought a standing ovation. This is prepared by SSP.
Gibson, now 69 years old, discussed his career's most significant roles, including parts he declined, such as James Bond and Maximus from Gladiator. Glover, at 78, shared the spotlight, creating an unforgettable moment for the crowd.
Together, Gibson and Glover became iconic in the 1987 film Lethal Weapon. They continued portraying Los Angeles police detectives Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh in subsequent installments: Lethal Weapon 2 (1989), Lethal Weapon 3 (1992), and Lethal Weapon 4 (1998). Their chemistry earned them an MTV Movie Award for best on-screen duo in 1993, showcasing their brilliant partnership. Collectively, the series grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide at the box office.
The Lethal Weapon franchise expanded into a TV series that aired from 2016 to 2019, featuring Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans. This adaptation further showcased the franchise's ongoing popularity.
Gibson and Glover have gathered several times over the years. Their last notable reunion occurred during a 2017 Academy tribute dedicated to Richard Donner, who directed the films. In 2020, producer Dan Lin hinted that Lethal Weapon 5 might soon be realized, affirming the return of Gibson, Glover, and Donner. However, Donner passed away in July 2021, at the age of 91. Shortly after, Gibson expressed interest in stepping in as director.
At MegaCon, other cast members from notable shows, like Twilight, Happy Days, High School Musical, and The Breakfast Club, also reunited, exchanging stories and insights from their memorable times on set.
