Javits described his emotions about creating the hat for the First Lady. He noted the importance of the occasion in an Instagram post on January 20. "It was my great honor and privilege to create the hat our First Lady wore for the inaugural swearing-in of our 47th President." He praised Melania for her elegance, stating, "She has the inner grace, beauty, and presence to transform a simple hat into a ‘wow’ moment. The hat was made with love."

Javits provided a glimpse into the creation process of the iconic headwear. In a behind-the-scenes video shared on January 20, he showcased the assembly steps. He started by cutting the navy blue fabric for the hat. The video included clips of the fabric wrapped around a hat stand and secured with yellow pins.

He also shared reactions to the stylish hat on Instagram Stories, highlighting one comment that labeled Melania's outfit as "chic in the sleet." Another remark expressed admiration for the hood of the design.

Javits added a surprising detail about how the hat’s inclusion in Melania’s outfit was nearly compromised. He revealed that the hat had arrived damaged while being shipped from Miami to New York. "I guess the hat arrived all crushed," he told Women's Wear Daily in a January 20 interview. He explained its condition, noting it resembled something that had "been sitting in snow drifts for about a week." He rushed to construct a new piece since the original couldn't be repaired.

To ensure a smooth delivery, Javits made another hat and sent it to stylist Hervé Pierre. Pierre traveled back with it to avoid any further issues.

When Melania appeared in Washington, D.C., the hat captured everyone’s attention, including Donald Trump's. He reflected on their send-off: "We went out to the helicopter and said goodbye. The wind was blowing like crazy, and with the hat she’s wearing, she almost blew away."

Trump humorously commented further, "We almost lost her. She was elevated off the ground."
