Singer Michelle Williams often finds humor in sharing her name with actress Michelle Williams. On December 22, she posted a playful revelation on her Instagram Story. The 45-year-old Broadway star shared an amusing case in which she received fan mail meant for the 44-year-old actress.

Currently performing in the Broadway musical adaptation of Death Becomes Her, Williams captured a letter addressed to "Ms. Williams." The letter included photos of the incorrect Michelle Williams. The caption read, "Fan Mail😂🥴," highlighting the mix-up vividly.

In another post, she shared that the actress often received her pictures during her time in Cabaret on Broadway. This revelation brought a smile to singer Michelle Williams, as she said, "That makes me happy!😂❤."

The mix-up is not a new occurrence for the "Say Yes" singer. Following the actress’ Emmy win in 2019 for her role in Fosse/Verdon, many confused fans reached out to congratulate her.

Responding to the mix-up during an Instagram Live, she expressed frustration, "How come when y’all are tagging and congratulating a person, do y’all see that I’m black?" She emphasized her identity, stating, "I ain’t mixed with nothing; I am black."

In the same breath, she reflected on criticism she faced regarding comments made during the actress’ Emmy speech about pay equity. "I am trying to figure out, ‘Why am I getting cursed out for Michelle Williams’ speech?’," she said, acknowledging the touchy subject of the actress’ advocacy.

The singer voiced her support for the Emmy award speech, appreciating its message. "She was beautiful. She was brilliant," she noted. "Now get it right, and stop cussing me out."

The actress also addressed the name confusion in a 2018 HuffPost interview. Speaking about Google searches that show her image with queries about Destiny's Child, she joked, "It gets me one step closer to Beyoncé." She expressed appreciation for the shared connection, noting, "Now I’ll know exactly what to say if I ever meet Beyoncé."
