Microsoft Announces a Number of New Functions for OneDrive
Microsoft's OneDrive cloud storage service is undergoing several enhancements to boost user experience, including a revamped mobile app, improved search capabilities, and the introduction of colored folders in Windows File Explorer. With enhanced search features, including new filter controls for quicker access to files, OneDrive enhances its performance and speed, set to be accessible for commercial users by the end of 2024. These improvements are complemented by the introduction of Copilot and Copilot Agents, building custom AI assistants to manage organizational tasks. This is prepared by SSP.
A major update to the OneDrive mobile app brings a photo-focused interface, natural language photo search, and the ability to import directly from Google Drive, Google Photos, and Dropbox. Available to Android users immediately, the iOS update will follow in November. Additionally, photo-related features will extend to all platforms, including web and macOS, with unfolding functionalities such as personalized file and photo views based on habits and occasions.
For subscribers of Microsoft 365 Personal and Family plans, available storage increases to 5TB and 10TB, and the app offers colored folders within OneDrive Windows File Explorer. Microsoft is also planning to integrate advanced AI functions into OneDrive, including quick actions like file comparison, into both Windows and Mac browsers. Together, these updates towards improving productivity and user experience follow a similar cloud storage enhancement event held the previous year.
