Mike Tyson's Deep Bond with Pigeons: A Testament to His Past

Mike Tyson, the former world heavyweight boxing champion, reveals to PEOPLE that he owns hundreds, "maybe a thousand" pigeons across the United States. Some of his beloved birds even feature in his new campaign for Dr. Squatch.
Tyson reflects on his enduring connection with pigeons, noting they have played significant roles throughout his life, including in his budding boxing career. In a 2011 blog for the New York Times, he described pigeons as his "first loving relationship." They profoundly influenced him, bridging calmness and violence.

Tyson is enthusiastic about the continuity of this connection. "My whole life is pretty much starting over with pigeons," he states. His intricate relationship with them began when he was just 11 years old. "Pigeons got me in trouble, and they got me out of trouble; it's been my entire life."
In his interview, Tyson admits, "I own hundreds of pigeons in California, New Jersey, Florida, and Vegas. I might own a thousand." This passion for pigeons has blossomed even more with time, he confides, stating, "I've spent more time with pigeons than anything else."
Tyson experiences happiness sharing his love for these birds through videos and pictures, especially in his promotional content for Dr. Squatch. "Most things I do include them – just a day in my life," he mentions.
Beyond his love for birds, Tyson is very open about embracing sensitivity. He reveals that he possesses around 150 colognes and has a strong appreciation for smelling pleasant. His chosen favorite from Dr. Squatch’s Total Moisture line is shea butter soap.

When asked about crying during emotional films, Tyson responds candidly. "Absolutely," he agrees, though he keeps specific movie titles to himself. "Life is worth crying for," he asserts. Engaging with life's emotions, from sadness to joy, makes it a richer experience.
Today, Tyson enjoys traveling extensively. He loves meeting new people and recently returned from a trip where he met a man from Indonesia. Despite his trips, family remains vital to him. "I want to be home with everyone in the family. It’s all about being a father and caring for my family," he says. For Tyson, success exceeds financial gains; it lies in loving and being part of the family.
