Millie Bobby Brown Calls Out "Disturbing" Beauty Criticism in Powerful Video

Millie Bobby Brown is addressing what she calls "disturbing" remarks concerning her looks. The "Stranger Things" star shared a heartfelt video on Instagram on March 3, where she criticized media reports dissecting her appearance.
In her post, the 21-year-old actress expressed her thoughts on social scrutiny. She stated, "I want to take a moment to address something larger than just me. This issue affects every young woman facing public examination." Brown explained that she began her career at age 10 and has grown up under the spotlight. She pointed out, "For some reason, people can’t grow with me. They act like I should stay frozen in time, like I should look the same as I did in "Stranger Things" Season 1. Now, I’m a target for criticism."
Brown highlighted troubling headlines aimed at young women, mentioning titles like "Why are Gen Zers like Millie Bobby Brown Aging So Badly?" and "What Has Millie Bobby Brown Done to Her Face?" She focused on one article from Matt Lucas, where he mocked her appearance with phrases like "mommy makeover." She criticized this piece as "an insult" rather than challenging the behavior of an adult man targeting a young woman.
She remarked, "This isn’t journalism. This is bullying. It's troubling that adults write articles dissecting my choices and appearance." Brown continued, "Worse still, some of these writers are women. We emphasize supporting women, yet some choose to tear us down for views. Disillusioned people can’t handle my growth on my own terms."

The "Enola Holmes" star declared, "I refuse to apologize for growing up. I won’t shrink to meet unrealistic standards from those uncomfortable with my evolution. Society too often favors criticism over compliments. Why is it easier to say something hurtful than something kind? For those who feel uncomfortable, I wonder why that is."
Brown urged society to improve: "Let’s do better—for me and every young girl who deserves to grow up free from fear of public judgment."

This is not the first time Brown has clapped back at beauty criticism. In January, she responded to trolls asserting she looked older than her age via Instagram. She stated, "Women grow!! Not sorry about it :)," on a now-expired Story. Just last week, she subtly confronted age remarks by resharing a British Vogue article with the headline, "No One Cares How Old You Think Millie Bobby Brown Looks," adding a simple, "Thank you."
