Mira Sorvino Discusses Family's Favorite Movies Featuring Late Father Paul Sorvino
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Mira Sorvino opened up about her father's celebrated films. She shared which movie her family loves to watch, especially during the holiday season. Her late father, Paul Sorvino, had an impressive and diverse film career.
Mira noted that "Santa Baby 2: Christmas Maybe" holds a special place in their hearts. Her children enjoyed this classic film, which features Paul in the role of Santa Claus. "We used to watch it all together," says Sorvino. "It’s been a few years, but they love seeing Grandpa as Santa."
The children's admiration for this holiday film encouraged Mira to embrace a new role. "Grandpa has played Santa, and Mira has played Mrs. Claus," shared her husband, Christopher Backus. Mira highlighted how the film impacted her work choices, especially since her other movies are mostly rated R.
When she got the offer for "Finding Mrs. Claus," she immediately accepted. "My kids couldn’t watch my other films. They enjoyed Santa Baby 2, so I wanted something family-friendly," she explained.
As her children mature, they are beginning to explore their grandfather's more mature works. Recently, Johnny, her oldest son, watched "Goodfellas" with friends at college. Backus mentioned, "Johnny was amazed. He exclaimed, 'I can't believe that's my grandpa.' It was a memorable experience for him."
Paul Sorvino, who passed away in July 2022 at 83, remains a beloved figure through his roles. He is most recognized for his part as Paulie Cicero in "Goodfellas" and as NYPD Sergeant Phil Cerreta in "Law & Order."
