Molly Bernard Calls Hilary Duff ‘Mommy’ for Motherhood Guidance
Molly Bernard has embraced her new role as a mother, thanks in part to Hilary Duff. The 36-year-old actress welcomed her daughter with wife Hannah Lieberman in January 2023. Bernard confesses she couldn't navigate motherhood without Duff's everyday advice.
In an interview with PEOPLE on November 8, Bernard described her Broadway debut as Rachel Dahl in "Cult of Love." This new show follows the chaotic Christmas dinner of the Christian Dahl family.
Bernard explained her character, saying, "I play Rachel Dahl, married to Mark, the eldest son. Being Jewish presents challenges in a hyper-Christian family." She emphasizes that Rachel represents how the family handles differences. "Rachel and Mark stand at a significant crossroad in their marriage," she added.
Since welcoming her daughter, a "sassy baby girl," Bernard has depended on Duff, who is a mother to numerous children. Bernard said that Duff offers essential support: "Every day she gives me motherhood advice. I call her 'Mommy' now, saying, 'Hi, mom!' instead of the formalities."
Bernard remarked on the challenges of motherhood, stating, "You can’t do it alone. It is incredibly humbling and exhilarating. You need an entire community backing you up."
Bernard noted that her daughter enjoys a friendship with Duff's kids. The children occupy an ideal age range that connects them. "I feel like my daughter prepared us for their new baby. They adore her, and it’s great," she shared.
Calling motherhood the "most incredible experience" of her life, she admits her initial fears, saying, "I was terrified to become a mom. It’s daunting yet the most loving event to ever occur for me."
