My Chemical Romance Addresses the Passing of Former Drummer Bob Bryar
My Chemical Romance has addressed the passing of former drummer Bob Bryar.
A spokesperson for the band stated, "The band asks for your patience and understanding as they process the news of Bob’s passing," confirming the news from December 1, as reported by the BBC and Variety.
TMZ reported on November 30 that Bryar was found deceased at his home in Tennessee. This incident occurred just days before, on November 26. He was 44 years old.
According to the reports, Bryar was last seen on November 4. The cause of his death remains unclear, with no indication of foul play.
Bryar became My Chemical Romance's drummer in 2004, stepping in for original drummer Matt Pelissier. He played with the band, including Gerard Way, Ray Toro, Mikey Way, and Frank Iero, until 2010. During Bryar's time, My Chemical Romance released their acclaimed album, The Black Parade, in 2006.
He parted ways with the group in 2010, before the launch of their fourth studio album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, yet still received songwriting credits for the album.
On the band's website in March 2010, rhythm guitarist Frank Iero acknowledged the difficult decision. "As of 4 weeks ago, My Chemical Romance and Bob Bryar parted ways. This was a painful decision for all us, not taken lightly. We wish him the best and expect you to do the same."
After leaving MCR, Bryar pursued various music projects before reportedly shifting towards a career in real estate.
In a 2016 interview with Alternative Press, Bryar recalled his early days with My Chemical Romance. He felt the band was special from the beginning.
"I left a very good touring gig where I was tour managing and doing sound. I left that job to join a band that was filthy, had sh—y gear, a smoking, smashed-up van, and was poor. They smelled bad, too. I was thrilled to receive the offer. Long before we recorded ‘Welcome to the Black Parade,’ I knew MCR was special, and I wanted in. I wanted to help evolve the band and shred with them each night."
