Netflix Releases First Trailer for "You" 5 Final Season: Joe Goldberg Faces His Demons

The fifth season trailer of Netflix’s "You" debuted on March 10. Joe Goldberg, played by Penn Badgley, faces turmoil as he returns to New York City with his wife. The story escalates as secrets from his past emerge.
In the trailer's opening, Joe narrates, "Hello, you. You’re back in the greatest city in the world, thanks to the one person who could make it possible." He reflects on his newfound fame, noting that to achieve happiness, one must confront their former identity.
Previously, Joe attempted to live peacefully as Professor Jonathan Moore abroad. Now, his encounter with Bronte, portrayed by Madeline Brewer from "The Handmaid's Tale," stirs complications. Joe warns himself, "You have a great life. It’s just not worth the risk." Yet, Bronte appears to understand him deeply. As his notoriety catches media attention, Joe's interest in her grows, a development fans recognize as precarious.

Meanwhile, Joe’s wife Kate Lockwood, played by Charlotte Ritchie, encounters difficulties with her twin sisters, Raegan and Maddie (Anna Camp). The sisters assert, "I want our sister to step down as CEO. I’m coming for everything." Joe considers a forceful approach against them, but Kate implores caution, asking, "You want us to kill everyone who’s suspicious of us for the rest of our lives?"
Their dialogue escalates when Joe questions, "Is that so wrong if it’s for the right reasons?" The trailer depicts Joe engaging in his familiar, violent habits, filled with intense confrontations and seduction.
His chilling message remains: "As for you, we’re not done with each other, yet."

Netflix’s season overview states, "In the epic fifth and final season, Joe Goldberg returns to New York to enjoy his happily ever after … until his perfect life is threatened by the ghosts of his past and his own dark desires."
In a March 2023 interview, Badgley expressed excitement about the season’s direction: "I feel like it's building towards a greater resolution," he said. "That's what I want for Joe … because now, the circumstances are actually different." He added, "He has a level of power and wealth that he's never had."

The fifth and final season of "You" premieres on April 24 on Netflix.
