New Ryzen 9000X3D Leak Shows Only a Slight Performance Boost
The recent leak of AMD's upcoming Ryzen 9000X3D desktop processors suggests they won't offer significant performance improvements over their predecessors, echoing the modest advancements seen with Intel’s new Arrow Lake desktop CPUs. According to slides released by MSI and shared by HardwareLuxx via VideoCardz.com, these processors demonstrate respectable generational gains in multicore performance, such as a reported 28% increase in Cinebench R23 benchmarks for the eight-core variant compared to the Ryzen 7 7900X3D. However, gaming performance enhancements seem limited, with increments ranging from 2% to 13% over the 7000X3D series across select games. This is prepared by SSP.
MSI, during a tour showcasing new Intel and AMD board designs, inadvertently divulged this information, revealing that the Ryzen 9000X3D series includes both 8-core and 16-core models. In testing against the prior Ryzen 9000 non-X3D series, theories indicate performance similarities, especially with a stable frequency of 5.2 GHz. Under these conditions, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D purportedly outperforms past models, being 9% faster in single-threaded operations and 16% faster in multi-core tests compared to earlier X3D iterations. Similarly, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D variants show notable enhancements.
MSI's presentation surprisingly included unanticipated AMD processor data in sections intended for discussing Intel’s Core Ultra 200 series, initially embargoed until October 10th. Although it's unclear if HardwareLuxx violated this embargo, the Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs are speculated to debut next month. Regardless of how the leak occurred, these findings paint an anticipatory picture of AMD’s incremental yet noteworthy improvements.
