Nicole Kidman Reflects on Her Mother’s Last Words
Nicole Kidman recently shared the sentimental final words of her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, who passed away in September, US Weekly reported. During an interview on CBS Sunday Morning, aired on December 15, Kidman recounted these profound sentiments.
Kidman remarked, "The final words my mama said, which I didn’t know were gonna be the final words… I was about to board a plane to see her. She suggested, 'Maybe wait a minute because I think you just need to take care of yourself right now, Nicky.'" The actress, at age 57, acknowledged that this advice reflects her approach to life. She noted, "I think we tend not to take care of ourselves," emphasizing the importance of self-care, especially for women.
Additionally, Kidman recalled her grandmother’s last words: "Be happy." Her mother reiterated the message with, "Take care of yourself." As a mother of four, these guided words hold deep significance for her.
Kidman shares her children with ex-husband Tom Cruise and current husband Keith Urban. She stated, "I’m an older mother so I want to be around for my girls." This reflection on parental roles underlines her commitment to self-care to provide for her daughters. Kidman appreciates the gift of her children, saying, "They’re amazing girls and I’m lucky to have them."
Kidman learned about her mother’s passing shortly after arriving at the Venice International Film Festival. During this event, director Halina Reijn read a statement from Kidman, expressing her shock and sorrow. "My beautiful, brave mother has just passed," the statement read. Kidman dedicated her awarded achievement to her mother, stating, "This award is for her; she shaped me, she guided me, and she made me."
In the days that followed, Kidman and her sister, Antonia, expressed gratitude for the support from friends and fans. They shared a joint message on Instagram, writing, "Thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week." The family appreciated everyone for respecting their privacy as they collectively mourned.
In an October interview, Kidman candidly shared the ongoing struggle with her loss. "It’s been hard," she reflected during the Lioness season 2 premiere in Los Angeles. She conveyed that celebrating her accomplishments felt bittersweet without her mother’s presence. Kidman poignantly remarked, "I wish my mama was here."
