Nikki Glaser ‘Felt Like Taylor Swift’ After the Success of Her Tom Brady Roast
Nikki Glaser is sharing her feelings about her newfound fame following her standout performance during "The Roast of Tom Brady" in May. She described this event as life-changing, noting the rapid shift in her public recognition, US Weekly reported.
"It was a life-changing performance. You never think it will happen, but everything changes afterward," Glaser, 40, explained on the December 12 episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live." She recounted how, overnight, she began to see her face on phones in public places.
The scrutiny surrounding Glaser increased dramatically after the Netflix roast aired on May 5. Glaser humorously stated she felt like a pop icon, specifically taking a moment to compare her experience to that of Taylor Swift. "For a couple of days, I felt that level of fame," she said.
Since her performance roasting the former NFL star, Glaser has secured major comedy engagements, notably the prestigious Golden Globes scheduled for January 5, 2025. She remarked on the major transformation in her career: "Life changed after the roast. I have a theater tour and numerous dates planned, which is so fun."
During the infamous roast, Glaser aimed sharp jokes at Brady, referencing his divorce from Gisele Bündchen and his substantial financial losses in cryptocurrency. At one point, she quipped, "You have seven rings. Well, eight now that Gisele gave hers back."
After the roast aired, Brady, 47, expressed regret about his participation. He highlighted concerns regarding the impact of the jokes on his children, saying, "I loved the jokes about me but felt bad about how it affected my kids." Brady, who shares children with both Bündchen and ex-Bridget Moynahan, recognized the mixed feelings surrounding the roast.
Glaser later addressed Brady’s regrets on the "Fresh Air" podcast, asserting, "Since he said yes, unless told otherwise, I will go there. I have consent." She understood that Brady might not have considered the repercussions for his family.
She also noted in an interview on "Today With Hoda & Jenna," "I think he didn't fully anticipate the backlash it could have on his family, and I do get that."
