O-T Fagbenle Announces Wrapping of The Handmaid’s Tale's Sixth and Final Season

After much anticipation and a lengthy delay due to dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, filming for the sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale has concluded. This marks the end of a saga that began with its 2017 series premiere, which was based on Margaret Atwood's novel set in a dystopian America following a second Civil War. O-T Fagbenle, who plays Luke on the Hulu series, announced the production wrap on Instagram on February 10 with behind-the-scenes images featuring fellow cast members such as Elisabeth Moss, Yvonne Strahovski, Madeline Brewer, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Samira Wiley, and Amanda Brugel. In his post, Fagbenle invited fans’ predictions for the final season, saying, "That's a wrap on the final season of Handmaids! It’s coming soon!"

For Amanda Brugel, who plays Rita, the experience has been about love and connection, as she shared her reflections and lively moments on set, expressing how the series represents liberation and affection, humorously noting memorable dance sessions.

The show has stood out as both a major award winner, becoming the first series on a streaming service like Hulu to capture a prestigious Emmy, and a cultural phenomenon with its critical acclaim and Golden Globes accolades.

Although series creator Bruce Miller is stepping down as showrunner as the series concludes, he continues to contribute as an executive producer and writer, having prepared plotlines well in advance. The transition of showrunner duties has moved to executive producers Eric Tuchman and Yahlin Chang. Meanwhile, Miller is focusing on The Testaments, the adaptation of Atwood’s 2019 sequel novel, which explores Gilead's fate through the voices of three women.

The final season of The Handmaid’s Tale promises to be as thrilling and unexpected as always, with Elisabeth Moss hinting at its grandeur and unpredictability.
