Olivia Munn Discusses Her Breast Cancer Journey and Embraces a "New Normal"

Olivia Munn is embracing her breast cancer journey with optimism. In an exclusive conversation with PEOPLE at the 2025 TIME Women of the Year Gala on February 25, the actress shared her thoughts on treatment and health. At 44 years old, Munn expressed, "I'm doing really good."
Munn detailed the challenges of finding the right treatment, noting, "Anyone who's gone through any kind of cancer, specifically breast cancer, understands there's a real science to figuring out the best kind of medication for you." While she acknowledges "there are good days and bad days," Munn also shared that she has "hit a good stride" regarding her health.

Diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer in April 2023, Munn faced several significant surgeries, including a lymph node dissection, a double mastectomy, and a hysterectomy. As she marked her resilience at the gala, she captivated her audience with her commitment to healing.
Discussing her evolving perspective, Munn described her "new normal," stating that she currently focuses on being gentler with herself. She emphasized, "I'm not pressuring myself to get out and do too many things," instead choosing to value time spent with family. Reflecting on her pre-diagnosis mindset, she said, "Before all of this, I wanted to seize the day... And now my to-do lists are a lot shorter."
Despite her love of organization, Munn admitted her home is often chaotic. "I don't know if it's because of cancer treatment or because I have two children," she remarked. She described adopting "attainable goals" to replace larger ambitions, allowing her daily achievements to feel more meaningful.

Munn went on to share, "I give myself a lot of grace now with things like that." Instead of stressing over her messy home, she finds success in smaller victories and in allowing herself room to breathe.
At the gala, Munn was accompanied by her husband, John Mulaney. Together, they share two children, son Malcolm, 3, and daughter Méi, who is five months old. Munn testified that having Mulaney by her side has strengthened their relationship.
"He's just the best. We’re so, so close," she expressed. This experience has deepened their bond, especially as they faced the difficulties of her cancer journey together. "You really don't know who someone truly is until they're put to the test," Munn reflected.
In her journey against cancer, Munn has witnessed the depth of character and support from her partner, stating he has handled everything beautifully. This love and commitment provide her with a strong foundation as she continues to navigate her healing journey.
