Olympian Gabby Thomas Engaged to Spencer McManes

Olympic track star Gabby Thomas announced her engagement to Spencer McManes, her longtime boyfriend.

The Olympic gold medalist is adding some sparkle to her life. She shared the happy news after dating Spencer for over two years. Spencer, a former Yale football player, proposed during a staycation in Austin, Texas. Gabby initially thought it was just a pre-season getaway. However, Spencer had rented an Airbnb and decorated the roof with flowers for the memorable moment.

"I suddenly realized, ‘Oh my gosh, this is happening!’" Gabby told Vogue in an interview published on March 25. "He’s usually terrible at surprises, but this is the one surprise he actually kept."

Before their relationship started in 2022, Gabby and Spencer were technically rivals, as Gabby had been competing at Harvard.

The couple's meeting story has a slightly cheesy twist. Gabby recognized Spencer from mutual friends. When she found his Instagram, she noticed his series of pizza reviews, which caught her attention.

"I'm a huge fan of pizza," she mentioned. "This looks like great content."

This intriguing content earned Spencer a follow, who was amazed by the champion sprinter choosing to engage with him.

"I got a notification about a new follower. I was like, ‘That’s incredible! Gabby Thomas?’" he shared with Vogue. "I immediately DM'd her, asking, 'What did I do to earn a follow?'"

Their connection blossomed, leading Spencer to support Gabby at the 2024 Olympic Games, where she won three gold medals.

"I'm excited to share this experience with my friends and family," Gabby said in an exclusive interview with E! News, reflecting on the challenges of the pandemic-era 2021 games. "That’s going to be an unforgettable moment."
