Opera May Soon Allow You to Manage Tabs with AI
Opera has unveiled a new AI-driven feature that enables users to manage browser tabs through natural language commands. This update, known as Tab Commands, allows Opera One users to execute actions such as grouping, pinning, bookmarking, and closing tabs using Opera's AI assistant, Aria. This is prepared by SSP.
Users can prompt the Aria command bar by pressing Ctrl + / on Windows or Cmd + / on Mac, and type specific instructions like "Group all video tabs" or "Bookmark all currently open tabs." This functionality processes commands entirely on the user's device without sending data elsewhere, ensuring privacy. Users can also control tabs by targeting particular sites or categories, such as "Close my YouTube tabs."
Introduced at the Browser Days event and part of Opera's AI feature drop program, the feature reflects Opera’s continued innovation in tab management. The company previously introduced the Tab Islands feature, which automatically groups related tabs. Enhancing its offerings, the Tab Commands promises a more streamlined browser experience without clutter. Unlike regular browsers which use AI to summarize and answer questions about websites, Opera's approach enhances browser usability.
A further update, One R2, is on the horizon, promising advancements in multimedia playback and design, along with additional AI capabilities like contextual page insights and image analysis. The Tab Commands feature is now live for Opera One developers and is expected in general future releases.
