Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie: Humor Turns to Opera with 'Sanasa'
Longtime friends Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are making a comeback. Seventeen years after their popular reality show, "The Simple Life," ended, they reunited onscreen in the new series titled "Paris & Nicole: The Encore." This three-part series premiered on Peacock on December 12, PEOPLE reported.
Richie expressed that over the years, they received many requests for a reunion. However, she stated that now "the time was right." In reimagining their comeback, the duo believed a traditional sit-down reunion wouldn’t suffice. "We wanted to throw ourselves into a world that we are completely unfamiliar with as a nod to "The Simple Life," Richie shared. "We definitely wanted to be on our feet and wanted to laugh."
In "Paris & Nicole: The Encore," the 43-year-old mothers of two experiment in unfamiliar territory. They stage an opera based on the playful song "Sanasa," which they created as children. Richie reflected that the transformation idea "started out as a joke and then became very serious, very fast."
Throughout filming, they faced the ticking clock. Richie recalls, "We definitely had moments where we'd be on the phone at 9:00, 10:00 at night, thinking, 'How are we going to do this?'" They felt the pressure of balancing filming with visits to various locations.
In the new series, they return to Arkansas, where they temporarily lived during *The Simple Life*. The experience on the farm allowed the pair a chance to try blue-collar jobs. Looking back, Hilton described it as a rewarding adventure.
"It was so much fun just going back to Arkansas and revisiting the family we stayed with," Hilton noted. "We connected with people from different jobs and truly felt we made an impact on the community. It felt great to see their energy and warmth."
Although "The Simple Life" aired from 2004 to 2007, its nostalgic value remains strong. Fans continue to reminisce about the series on social media. Hilton remarked on how enjoyable it was to see fans recreate moments on platforms like TikTok, specifically around Halloween when many dress up as her and Richie.
"It’s been incredible to connect with fans about how much "The Simple Life" meant to them," Hilton added, highlighting its influence on many viewers. "Hearing how our friendship impacted them has been really special."
