Play Market Now Supports Multiple Updates

Google’s Play Store improves by allowing simultaneous updates for multiple Android apps. Before, the Play Store would only process updates one app at a time when done manually. Now, it can handle up to three concurrent updates according to tests. This enhancement, observed as early as 2019 by Android Police, and more formally noticed by 9to5Google recently on devices like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and Pixel 7 Pro, is finally being rolled out. This new capability resolves a long-held major inconvenience in the Play Store. Previously, updating several apps necessitated waiting for each update to finish individually, consuming significant time. This function, akin to an existing feature in Apple’s App Store, only supports up to three app updates simultaneously, offering a substantial improvement and efficiency gain from the previous one-app-at-a-time limitation.

The Play Store had facilitated concurrent updates of multiple apps in the past too, but this feature had been halted for a while. Now, with this reintroduction, keeping apps up-to-date becomes considerably easier and faster. However, it should be noted that the three-app update threshold might feel somewhat limiting but still remarkably better than before.

This update, believed to be server-side, also complements the recently introduced ability to download several new apps at once, implying fewer interruptions and quicker setup of new devices. Users need to manually attempt running multiple updates to see if the feature is currently available on their devices, as there is no specific timeline or device-specific announcement from Google regarding this roll-out.
