Police Report on 911 Call Before Liam Payne's Death
On the day Liam Payne tragically fell from a hotel’s third floor, Argentina’s police received a 911 call regarding an "aggressive man" at the same location.
New details have emerged about the events leading to the former One Direction member's death. Liam Payne passed away on October 16 after he fell from a hotel in Buenos Aires, as confirmed by the emergency medical service, El Sistema de Atención Médica de Emergencias (SAME), to Telemundo.
According to SAME, police were alerted that afternoon about an aggressive individual potentially under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the hotel, located in Palermo. Officials have yet to verify whether substances were involved in the incident.
Payne had been in Argentina for more than two weeks. He spent time with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, who noted on October 14 that she was returning to Florida. He also attended a concert by former bandmate Niall Horan on October 2.
In the wake of Payne's passing, numerous tributes from the music community emerged, including a heartfelt message from Harry Styles' mother, Anne Twist. She remarked on Instagram on October 16: "Just a boy" alongside a heartbreak emoji. Singer Charlie Puth, who collaborated with Payne, shared his experience on Instagram Story, expressing that "Liam was always so kind to me."
Puth reflected on his professional relationship with Payne, noting, "He was one of the first major artists I got to work with," referencing Payne's single "Bedroom Floor" from 2017. Puth added disbelief over the loss, saying, "I cannot believe he is gone."
Before his solo career, Payne gained fame on The X Factor in 2010, where he united with four other teenagers to form One Direction. The band, initially suggested to be called Unique Selling Point by Payne's father, released blockbuster hits like "What Makes You Beautiful" and "Night Changes," selling 50 million records worldwide.
However, the demands of life on the road led Payne to struggles with substances. He candidly described being "locked" in hotel rooms with a minibar. Ultimately, Payne underwent a 100-day rehab stint and shared with followers in July 2023 that he had achieved six months of sobriety.
"I needed to take a little bit of time out for myself," Payne revealed, explaining his transformation into someone he no longer recognized.
