Prince Harry Creates Opportunities with Invictus Games, Says CEO

Prince Harry prepares for an "extraordinary" Invictus Games set to occur from Saturday, February 8, to Sunday, February 16, in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, US Weekly reported.
Dominic Reid, CEO of the Invictus Games Foundation, praised the competition for wounded or injured service members during a recent interview with PEOPLE. "It is very important to him as a soldier, and personally," Reid noted. "Harry has guided and directed the vision, making it a joy to be involved."
Reid expressed the meaningful impact of the games, stating, "We all get something from it for our own reasons. He has created extraordinary opportunities for an extraordinary number of people. They feel seen, heard, and cared about." A significant moment occurred when Harry addressed a NATO military briefing via video link in October 2024, showcasing the importance of the event.

"There’s a strong synergy between him and the Foundation," Reid said. "Most people see that and respond warmly." This upcoming event will mark Reid's last, as he announced plans to step down in July 2024. "Now is the time for someone new to take this vital movement forward into its second vigorous decade," he said.
The Duke of Sussex established the Invictus Games in 2014 after a decade of military service. In a November 2024 interview, he highlighted the tenth anniversary as a thrilling milestone, emphasizing, "The Invictus movement started back in 2014. It’s a sporting platform used for rehabilitation and support for wounded soldiers, both serving and veterans."
In January, reports indicated a significant change for the games — the replacement of rifles with lasers. "The principal reason for the lasers is inclusivity," a spokesperson for the Invictus Games Foundation indicated. "[They] can be utilized by a wide range of those with disabilities," they clarified.

The 2025 event anticipates over 500 competitors from more than 20 nations. Participants will engage in a variety of sports, such as alpine skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing, biathlon, skeleton, and wheelchair curling. The opening ceremony, on February 8, promises performances from Chris Martin, Katy Perry, Noah Kahan, Nelly Furtado, and Roxanne Bruneau.
