Prince William Speaks Fluent Welsh in Video to Mark St David's Day

Prince William has released a video to commemorate St. David’s Day, aired on the Kensington Palace account. The message, posted Saturday, March 1, features him speaking fluent Welsh as part of the festive acknowledgment, PEOPLE reported.
In English, the prince articulates, "Today, on St. David's Day, we come together to celebrate Wales — its history, its culture, and its incredible people." He continues, "From its breathtaking landscapes to its language, Wales continues to inspire. Today, we will celebrate everything that is magical about Wales. To the people of Wales and everybody around the world, Happy St David's Day."
The video showcases Prince William and Kate Middleton as they greet fans bearing Welsh flags and handing out daffodils.
Reports from PEOPLE indicate that Prince William engages in conversational Welsh but is not taking formal lessons. He often greets locals in Welsh during his trips to Wales.
This video comes after the royal couple's recent trip to South Wales, which took place on Wednesday, February 26, ahead of the national holiday. During this trip, they traveled by train as Princess Kate embraced tradition by wearing a striking red coat to symbolize the colors of the Welsh flag.

While visiting Pontypridd, Prince William and Princess Kate interacted with locals affected by severe storms in December 2024. Their engagement included a stop at The Welsh Cake Shop, where they donned aprons and took part in making Welsh cakes.
Theresa Conner, the shop owner, shared with PEOPLE that their visit was "a dream come true." She described the royal couple as "personable and friendly and down to earth; they were really lovely."
On their visit, Prince William shared jokes about the cakes, jesting that they would sell them at "half price." This day reflected their deepening connection with Wales, a place they called home during the early years of their marriage.

Prince William and Kate’s recent royal excursion counts as their second joint engagement of the year. Their previous appearance was at a Holocaust Memorial Day service in London on January 27.
