Pro Soccer Player Holden Trent Passes Away at 25
Holden Trent, a goalkeeper for the Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer, has tragically passed away at the age of 25. He died on October 26, and his passing has shocked the soccer community.
His family shared their grief through a statement on Holden's Instagram page. "We want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Holden passed away this afternoon surrounded by his family and friends." They also noted that he is survived by his fiancé, Brie, to whom he proposed in December.
Although the cause of death has not been announced, reports indicated that Holden had recently been hospitalized in an intensive care unit. The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support. They mentioned, "Details on services and celebration of life are forthcoming. Our family is deeply touched to see and experience the love you all have for Holden."
Holden's team paid tribute to him on their website. The Philadelphia Union stated, "The Philadelphia Union is devastated by the heartbreaking passing of Holden Trent. He was more than a player; he was a devoted son, brother, fiancé, and teammate who made those around him better." They emphasized his qualities of determination and dedication.
The team highlighted that Holden’s selection as the 28th overall pick in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft showcased his potential. Unfortunately, he passed away before making his debut with the first team but previously appeared in six games for their second team in MLS Next Pro.
Major League Soccer also extended condolences. A post on MLS’s Instagram stated, "Major League Soccer joins the Philadelphia Union in mourning the tragic passing of Holden Trent. A young goalkeeper with a bright future, he showcased determination and professionalism every day." They are working to support his family and teammates during this difficult time.
