Queen Camilla’s Aide Reflects on Her Support During King Charles III’s Cancer Diagnosis

A royal aide discussed how Queen Camilla managed royal duties while supporting King Charles III after his cancer diagnosis in 2024. The aide described the experience as "exhausting" during an interview with Newsweek, as mentioned in a cover story published on March 12.
"It would have been draining for any woman half her age," the aide noted. However, this challenging period allowed the media and the public to appreciate her consistent efforts with greater interest and clarity.
The aide reminisced about Camilla visiting a London cancer center on January 31, 2024. At this time, she was privately aware of her husband’s diagnosis before it was publicly disclosed. "She had to perform public duties knowing the situation, such as visiting a Maggie’s Center in London," the aide remarked. "She couldn’t reveal any hint of vulnerability amidst her private fears."
It was "astonishing" to witness how Camilla balanced her responsibilities as a working royal despite her personal anxieties, the aide expressed.

On February 5, 2024, Buckingham Palace announced King Charles' diagnosis of an unspecified "form of cancer" following a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate. The subsequent month, Princess Kate Middleton disclosed her own cancer diagnosis after malignanture surgery. Fortunately, Kate announced she is in remission, while the king is believed to still be undergoing treatment as he continues his duties.
Charles commenced 2025 with a busy agenda, including a trip to Poland in January commemorating the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The king and queen also have plans to visit Italy in April.
Royal experts and former palace staff shared with Us Weekly that the king has no intention of slowing down. "He’s dedicated to his role," stated former palace chef Darren McGrady. "And I think the only thing that was holding him back in 2024 was cancer, and getting through that."
"There are very few things, I think, that would deter King Charles from fulfilling his duties, which he takes seriously," McGrady added. "Everyone is looking forward to a year filled with a full schedule and uninterrupted engagements," said royal photographer Samir Hussein. "Certainly, the king is eager for that to be the case, and it’s encouraging he can take on many responsibilities despite his treatment."
